Buying antique lighting online can be a little different to buying from a shop. Of course we do have an antique lighting shop in Melbourne Derby but you may not be able to come and visit us.
Ashby Interiors began life as an online shop specialising in restored antique lighting back in 2014. So we have had years of experience supplying our art nouveau chandeliers and arts and crafts lighting ready to install much the same as if you had bought a brand new item.
When we supply our restored antique lighting, it is always rewired and fitted with new bulb holders and PAT tested prior to dispatch. This gives you peace of mind that even if you are buying an Arts and Crafts lamp which is over 100 years old, it is electrically safe.
Often antique chandeliers are significantly heavier than modern replicas. Because of this, they will need suspension chain and a ceiling rose to support the weight. Some suppliers will ask you to purchase these separately. We always include a matching suspension chain and ceiling rose so that you don’t have any embarrassing situations when your electrician arrives! In addition, we will send an installation guide for you to use.
The most common question we are asked is ‘how do I know my chandelier will reach me intact’. Obviously, lots of our lighting is glass. Antique vaseline glass is so delicate and valuable too. We have years of experience packing and use lots of bubble wrap, loose fill and big, strong boxes. Of course our shipping is insured and tracked. So, please don’t worry!
