Ashby Interiors - Derby Telegraph ArticleWe were really pleased to receive some great media attention from the Derby Telegraph last week. with a double page spread in the Business section.

The article was prompted by the launch of our V for Victory range of World War II items from Hurricane and Spitfire aircraft which will help to raise funds for the Royal British Legion as we will be donating 5% from the sales price of each item purchased between now and 31 December.

Being interviewed about our business gave me chance to sit back and think about what we are doing and why. That may sound life an odd thing to say but it can be easy to get swept along with the every-day activities and forget all the reasons you are running this business and what you have discovered along the way.

I talked about what a great place Derby is to start a business!  We can hop onto the M1 in ten minutes and are only two hours from London/Wales/Newcastle.

I talked about how important it is to use local businesses which I never knew existed and what fantastic service they have offered us for what is often only a small job for them.

I talked about the importance of remembering the business plan, setting objectives and running our small business professionally.  Setting targets, planning ahead, budgeting, being open to changing what doesnt work.

I talked about how useful it is to be versatile and to be willing to have a go at tasks yourself rather than paying for someone else to do everything.  However, it is also crucial to recognise when to call in professional help.  An example of this is that you may have a go at producing some You-tube Clips but you will ask a professional to design your website (thank you Online 99)

I talked a lot…but then if you know me you will say that’s perfectly normal!  I hope you enjoy reading the article. The photos werent my favourite part I have to say!
